Urban trees are vital to city life—they cool our streets, filter pollution, and support local ecosystems. But monitoring their health across entire cities is a complex and labor-intensive task. That’s where Plant Doctor comes in.
Plant Doctor is a cutting-edge AI system designed to automatically diagnose the health of street trees using regular video footage. By combining advanced machine vision and image segmentation, it identifies individual leaves, tracks their condition, and detects signs of damage caused by pests, fungi, or disease.
Using algorithms like YOLOv8 and DeepSORT, Plant Doctor finds and tracks leaves in each frame, while a deep learning model (DeepLabV3Plus) analyzes leaf condition in detail. The software can be run on standard computers, and its lightweight design means it could soon be deployed in moving vehicles for large-scale urban monitoring.
This hybrid system not only saves time but provides city planners and environmental experts with data to act quickly—preventing disease spread and maintaining healthier green spaces.
