3D printing for lunar applications

Building a base on the moon has become one of the scientific challenges with the lunar exploration program. Transporting building supplies, assembling building components, and repairing damage to buildings caused by erratic lunar climatic conditions are the three fundamental obstacles to lunar construction.

In response to these problems, our laboratory is developing a type of 3D printer that can be used on the moon reliably. Furthermore, based on the developed 3D printer, we are designing different structures of the bin which will be used in building the bases on the moon in the future.

The raw materials are tiny and lightweight to carry, and the materials are strong enough and simple to load and unload. Additionally, 3d printing technique on the moon can effectively lower construction costs and guarantee regular building maintenance.
